Never has a decade of fashion trends had the least influence on wedding dress trends as in 2000- 2010. The fashion of the noughties was I believe; a decade of non fashion. We had the low rise jeans, Juicy Couture track suit, string thongs on show, belly tops and the invasion of the Pashmina stole, of which I have to confess I had and still have loads! There was almost a desire to not follow a style path and in doing that there actually grew a very identifiable trend of sweet coloured leisure wear as being the major trend of the decade.
The wedding dress by contrast was a simple affair. Slim silhouettes with quirky little details. Straight dresses were not too fitted they kissed the body as opposed to hugging it! Sleeves in fine chiffon or tulle were popular and by contrast the demand for the strapless gowns was growing. This decade saw the rise of the destination wedding and that led to a demand for lighter gowns suitable for hotter climes.
This was a favourite and extremely successful decade for me as I was exporting huge numbers of my dresses. I loved that they were being chosen and worn all over the world by beautiful brides.
